Frequently asked questions

1. Can I put a cover over the front of my outdoor unit to make it less visible?

The outdoor unit of an air conditioning system requires adequate clearance in order for the system to function correctly. Its performance depends upon efficient dispersal, so covering the unit will affect this.

If you would like to cover your outdoor unit our team will be able to advise on different scenarios we could implement.

2. What are my options for having multi rooms in my home/office air-conditioned?

Multi-split systems are designed specifically to operate with any combination of indoor units, using one outdoor unit connected to multiple indoor units to cool or heat anywhere between two to five rooms simultaneously.

Another option would be to install separate split system air conditioners in each of the rooms that require cooling or heating. Both of these options give you the ability to set individual room temperatures for each indoor unit.

Additionally, ducted systems are perfectly suited to providing air-conditioned comfort to the entire home. Each option has specific benefits that our team here at Eco Air Services will guide you through in deciding what is the best air conditioning solution for your home.

3. What is zone control on a ducted system?

Zone Control, available on all ducted systems, allows you to group specified rooms within a particular "zone". This allows you to target within an established zone the specific rooms you want to heat or cool with your ducted system, rather than running your entire ducted system in the entire home or business. Zoning can help maximise energy efficiency and comfort by specifically targeting heating and cooling.

For example, you may want to assign bedrooms to Zone One and the living areas to Zone Two etc., to thus enable these specific areas to be cooled or heated individually when needed. When a zone is selected, cooling and heating will not be distributed to rooms outside the zone.

The position of the discharge grilles featured in a ducted system can also be tailored to suit the shape of each room within a zone, for optimum air circulation. We offer various zone control systems to suit your climate control needs which our friendly technicians will be happy to talk through with you.

4. What are the main components of a ducted system?

The main components of a ducted air conditioning system consist of an indoor and outdoor unit and a range of third-party accessories that help distribute conditioned air throughout a home.

These accessories include diffusers (from where air is released into the home), flexible ducts, return air grilles (which act as a filter to remove household dust) and motorised dampers for zoning capabilities.

The indoor unit is concealed out of sight, in your ceiling or under the floor, with flexible ducting distributing air through vents located throughout the home. An outdoor unit is positioned in a discreet location outside the home.

5. Does my air conditioner need re-gassing?

Re-gassing an air conditioner will never be necessary if it is installed correctly.

However, if the pipe connections are not flared (a type of compression fitting) properly or tightened to the correct torque, or if the pipes themselves degrade over time for some unforeseen reason, then they may leak, which is the most common cause of needing to re-gas an air conditioner.

Terms such as 'stale gas' or 'expired gas' are not something that occurs in air conditioning units.

If you suspect there is a gas leak on your air conditioning system you should contact Eco Air Services 0455 295 644 and have one of our fully qualified technicians investigate and rectify.

6. What should I do to make sure that my air conditioner work efficiently this season?

Having your air conditioner checked each year by an Eco Air Services qualified service technician, before the most extreme conditions of summer or winter set in is ideal for making sure your system will perform at its best.

Aside from this, remembering to keep the air filter clean and the outdoor unit free of leaves and debris are essential for ensuring your system operates at full capacity throughout the peak seasons.

7. What do I have to do to maintain my newly installed air conditioning system?

At a minimum you need to clean and maintain your air conditioner's air filters, as any build-up of dust or dirt will restrict airflow and reduce the energy efficiency and capacity of your system.

8. How do I choose the right sized air conditioning system for my property?

The right air conditioner will make a big difference to both the energy consumption and experience of an environment. With Eco Air Services here to assist at every stage, we will assess all factors impacting on your indoor temperature and influencing your home's heat load.

Every home is different, and the right air conditioner will depend on many factors, such as room orientation, window size and ceiling insulation, just to name a few. It's an important decision to get right, as an air conditioner that's too small won't adequately heat or cool your home, and one that's too large will be inefficient and expensive to run.

We will ensure that the correct unit is installed for your climate control needs following a thorough analysis from our team here at Eco Air Services.

9. Why do air conditioning installers need to be licensed?

Air conditioning systems are a technical and complicated piece of engineering technology, which is why a qualified licensed professional is needed to install, repair, and service your system.

It’s also illegal for technicians or tradesmen without a licence issued by the Australian Refrigeration Council to ‘handle’ refrigerant gases (commonly used in domestic and commercial air conditioners).

A properly licenced specialist, allows you to rest assured that your system is being handled by a fully qualified professional who understands fully the responsibility of handling your system’s installation, repair and servicing.
