The Fight against mould!

With the news of the East Coast of Australia having to endure yet another La Niña event and the dreaded mould which comes hand in hand with this climate, it seems necessary to give insight into the best practices to help fend off the dreaded fungi and stay healthy.

Firstly, ensure that your home has adequate airflow, leaving windows open, particularly in bathrooms & laundry, which are more susceptible to mould. Ceiling fans and bathroom extract fans can also be a great way to create airflow in your property.

Using the dry mode on your air conditioning system, which is usually displayed on your wired/ wireless remote control as a water droplet, can dramatically help our fight against mould. The dry mode works by taking in the humid air, drying it in the evaporator, and releasing it back into your home in the form of dry air. This will help maintain a much better level of comfort in your environment while helping to prevent the build-up of mould.

Servicing and maintaining your air conditioning system is as important as any other procedure to prevent the air that you breathe being contaminated with mould and harmful bacteria. If attempting to take on this task yourself remove the filters and clean under warm water or alternatively call a licensed air conditioning company and have a professional take care of it for you.

Also if your property has a subfloor space having a fresh air supply/ extract air fan installed can significantly reduce the growth of mould. Underneath your property provides perfect breeding conditions for mould which is going to be enhanced by the forecasted La Niña and the increased humidity that this brings.

It is very important to keep on top of these unfortunate mould issues we are enduring, to avoid unwanted respiratory and other linked health issues.
